As of February 2018, Oracle plans to end public updates for Java 8 in January 2019. After this time, Oracle will no longer release new security updates with Java 8 and will begin to recommend upgrading to newer releases of Java. However, there is always a possibility that Oracle may extend the date to a later time as indicated in the article here.

What is very interesting is that Java 9, the next release after Java 8, is ending public updates in March 2018. This is almost a year before public updates for Java 8 are currently planned to end. Oracle is dedicating Java 9 to be a "short term release" as they plan to release Java 10 in March 2018. Java 10 will also be a short-lasting release as Java 11 will be released in September 2018. In addition, starting with Java 10, each new update will use a versioning scheme of "YY.M" to indicate the year and the month (e.g. Java 10 18.4 for April 2018).

For anyone who is using Oracle WebLogic Server 12c (WebLogic uses a JDK (short for Java Development Kit)), you will need to continue using JDK 8. Although public updates will end in January 2019, premier support for JDK 8 will continue through March 2022. After the public updates end, Java 8 will only become available through My Oracle Support meaning that you will need to have access to My Oracle Support (formerly Metalink) to be able to download JDK 8.

For anyone who is using Oracle Forms and Reports 12c as well as PITSS.CON, you will need to continue using JRE 8 (Java Runtime Environment) as Forms is not supported with any version greater than Java 8 at this time. Like JDK 8, JRE 8 will continue to have premier support through March 2022. In addition, Java Web Start (supported with Oracle Forms 12c) on Java 8 will be supported through at least March 2025. This means that if you run your Oracle Forms 12c application with Java Web Start, the Java Web Start functionality will be supported until then. However, premier support for Oracle Forms 12c will only last until August 2022 (as of February 2018). If you are using an older Oracle Forms release (11gR2 and older), it is advised to upgrade to Forms 12c as soon as possible. Contact PITSS for more information to help you upgrade or modernize your legacy Oracle Forms application.

Sources: https://blogs.oracle.com/java-platform-group/extension-of-oracle-java-se-8-public-updates-and-java-web-start-support and http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/eol-135779.html
[22,6
16,89,23,44,90,7,40
post-10860","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-forms","category-pitss-con","tag-11gr2","tag-12c","tag-forms","tag-java","tag-java-web-start","tag-pitss-con","tag-weblogic
["GET
